Arizona Night
The cool night air slides across my skin,
leaking in through an open window. It caresses me, leaving a trail of goosebumps in its wake.
My lips curve in a partial smile, as I law, drowsy in a twisted heap of covers. The scent of incense, already faint, is pushed away from me, replaced by smells of the desert, dust and chaparral.
In the distance, a train whistles, warning the unwary. Too far to hear the clacking of its iron wheels upon the track - too far and fading, dieing in the night.
The traffic from the road sounds more like wind through the trees, shushed and quiet, but always there. Wind to lift me up on gentle-feathered wings of sleep. 1   |
